What is the difference between an independent cleaner and a cleaning company?
An independent cleaner is a single person running their own business. You deal with the same individual from the first call to the last visit. A cleaning company is a larger business that typically schedules different people to different homes.
I am an independent. HarmonySync Solutions is owner-operated, and I am the only person who comes to your home. So I am biased, but I will try to be fair about where each option shines.
What are the advantages of an independent cleaner?
The big one is consistency. The same person learns your home, your preferences and your quirks. After a few visits, there is no need to repeat instructions about the guest bathroom or which counters are delicate.
Communication is also direct. You text or call the person who cleans your home, not a dispatcher.
- The same person visits every time
- Direct communication, with no middleman
- Flexible planning around your priorities
- A personal stake in your satisfaction and your referrals
- Easier to combine cleaning with organizing or errands
What are the advantages of a cleaning company?
Companies bring capacity. If one person is sick, another can usually fill in. They can also clean a very large home faster by sending several people at once, and they often have set procedures and online booking.
That is a real benefit if you have a big property, tight deadlines or need service on short notice every time. An independent has limits, because one person can only be in one home at a time.
How do the downsides compare?
With an independent, the tradeoff is availability. If I am booked, I am booked, and I cannot send a substitute. That is why I schedule carefully and talk openly about calendars in advance.
With a company, the tradeoff is often consistency. You may see a different person each week, and a message may pass through several people before it reaches the one who cleans. If you like to have things done a specific way, that can be frustrating.
How should price factor into the decision?
Do not compare only the sticker price. Compare what is included, how time is billed and whether extras are added. Pricing structures vary widely, so ask each option for a clear breakdown.
My own pricing is simple. Recurring house cleaning is quoted based on your home and how often you want help, and deep cleans are $35 an hour. You can request a quote on this page or take the free consultation first, so you can see the numbers before deciding.
Which should you choose?
Choose an independent if you value one familiar person, direct contact and a flexible, personal approach. Choose a company if you need large-scale capacity or backup coverage on every day.
Whichever you pick, ask the same ten questions: how they charge, what is included, who comes, what paperwork you sign, how they communicate and how problems are handled. My guide to questions before hiring a cleaner has the full list. Look for clear answers and put them in writing.
What about trust and safety?
Inviting anyone into your home is a trust decision, whether they work alone or for a business. Ask both types about their background, what paperwork you sign and how they handle keys and access. Written agreements matter either way.
With me, there is a signed service agreement and a Home Entry Consent before the first visit, and I am trained in First Aid and CPR. My work history includes senior living roles as a Medication Aide, Resident Aide and Housekeeper. You can ask me about any of it at the free consultation.
What about adding other services?
One quiet advantage of working with a single person is that services can grow with your needs. Cleaning can turn into organizing a closet, a donation run or a pet sitting visit while you are away, all with the same person who already knows your home.
A large company may have set packages that are harder to bend. If you like the idea of one point of contact for the whole household to-do list, an independent can be a better fit. If you only want a simple, standardized clean, a company may be perfectly fine.
What questions should I ask either one?
Ask how they charge, what is included, who will clean, what paperwork you sign, how they get into your home, how they communicate and what happens if something goes wrong. Ask for a clear answer on insurance too, and request proof if it matters to you.
The answers tell you far more than a polished website. A confident provider of any size will answer plainly and put the details in writing. If they dodge, that is information too.
If you try one and it does not feel right, switching is allowed. Cleaning relationships are personal, and it is perfectly fine to find the fit that suits your household. The goal is a home you enjoy and a provider you trust.

Frequently asked questions
Is an independent house cleaner cheaper than a company?
Sometimes, but not always, so compare what is included and how the price is set. An independent often has lower overhead. My recurring house cleaning is quoted, and deep cleans are $35 an hour. Always ask any provider for a clear written breakdown.
What happens if an independent cleaner gets sick?
Because I am one person, I cannot send a substitute. If I am unwell or need to move a visit, I contact you as early as I can and I work with you to find a new time. Anyone considering an independent should ask about this before they book.
Will I always get the same cleaner?
With HarmonySync Solutions, yes. I am the only person who comes to your home, so you never need to explain your preferences to someone new. Companies may rotate people, so ask whether you can request the same person every visit.
